Why Going Green and Recycling is important

Recycling one ton of paper (2000 pounds):

  • Saves approximately 17 trees (about 3700 lbs of lumber)
  • Saves 3 cubic yards (27 cubic feet) of landfill space
  • Saves 4200 kwk energy (enough to power a home for 6 months)
  • Uses 64% less energy and 50% less water to produce
  • Saves 7000 gallons of water
  • Saves 380 gallons of oil
  • Keeps almost 60 lbs of air pollution effluents out of the air
  • Creates five more jobs

Recycling one aluminum can instead of producing a new one:

  • Reduces energy use by 90%-97%
  • Reduces air pollution by 95%
  • Reduces water pollution by 97%
  • The average lifespan of an aluminum can is 6 weeks which means the time it takes for a beverage can to be manufactured, filled, sold, recycled & remanufactured is 6 weeks

Recycling one glass container instead of producing a new one:

  • Reduces energy use by 4%-32%
  • Reduces air pollution by 20%
  • Reduces water usage by 50%
  • All new glass food jars contain at least 35% recycled glass
  • A returnable bottle can average 15-20 fillings before breaking
  • When you recycle one glass bottle, you save the amount of energy needed to light a 100 watt bulb for 4 hours

Did You Know Recycling is the Law?

Act 749 of 12/31/91 requires all cities, countries, school districts, colleges, and universities to establish a recycling program! They just don't all do it!
